| Map from my road trip to the US South West Desert, April 20 – May 1, 2009. Most of this area is on the Columbia Plateau, also referred to as the Columbia Basin. Although the bounds of the plateau are not defined the same by everyone, the US parks service considers all the parks listed below to be part of the plateau. The plateau is dominated by scrubland and contains incredible sandstone rock formations that have been formed by the Green River, Columbia River and rainfall. Total distance from Victoria, including side trips, was 5400km. Major stops along the way were:
Arches National Park Canyanlands National Park – Island in the Sky Monument Valley Grand Canyon National Park – South Rim Hoover Dam Las Vegas Of all these stops, Arches National Park was the highlight. Well worth the trip. Pictures are on this post!
